“Chase the Rabbit..â€- I mean – “Chase the Sun.. Rnd 2. 6hrâ€
Another race, another early start. This start however had a difference. Destination – Lysterfield for an enduro race! – Sounds crazy – but it just might work. And work it did. With +350 riders showing for what was shaping to be a perfect day for cutting some sweet trails on some home tracks.
Firstly a Big well done is in order, firstly for Snozza for getting the event series off the ground and such a great success, the sponsors for making the event what it was (Bloody great!) and the riders / spectators that participated in such a great days outing.
My day consisted of an early start – bright eyed and bushy tailed, followed by parking my car as close as possible in the gravel carpark and lugging about 1,867,495,569,366.22kg of stuff down to our race site setup (OK maybe I exaggerated a little – but it was a fair wack of kit to be running up and down the slope to gather, bring down and setup by oneself….)
After getting a prime location I setup camp and made myself at home.
Race time came around quickly, there were some big names such as Josh Flemming, Ash Thomas, Jack Lamshed, John Claxton, Russel Collett, Andrew Bell, and Adrian Jackson to name a few mixing it up for the big “Wâ€, but I was keen to ensure Myself and Muzza had a good race.
In typical style the race was on from the word go!, After the first lap the lead field had trickled down to a select few riders who could handle the high speeds of some top class Aussie riders.
In a big gush Muzza flew to the timing tent waving me his baton as I started winding it up to head out onto the course. Our group of 4 riders were setting a good tempo pace. Jack (Team Felt) unexpectedly had to make a stop about a third of the way around the lap, as it turns out he experienced some tyre deflation issues and had to make a quick stop.
The now group of three (including myself) remained alone in the lead bunch for the remainder of the race. The Lead did change regularly at the pointy end between our three teams. Fleeming was showing class powering away through the course, as Myself and Muzza were trying to hold flying laps, John Claxton and Russel Collett were just being consistent and putting in the hard yards when needed.
The end result being John Claxton (Team Giant) and Russel Collett first followed by the Felt import team – Josh Flemming and Brendan Sharratt followed by Myself and Muzza (Team Giant) a mere 20 something seconds of 2nd in a 6hr race!
This event proved to be a hit for all.
A notable mention should go to a good mate “AJ†Adrian Jackson who attacked the course as if he were in a national’s race. He hit up some very quick lap times all day and made our Pro Pairs teams look soft! Look out Chris Eattough!!
Ok boys and Girls, I am signing off now but stay tuned as I’m off to the De Bortilli Road Race Tour this weekend!
